How To Create A New Orleans Creole Summer Bedroom ?

Summers in New Orleans can be very unpleasant. Traditionally, us creoles, prepare for summer and all of it unpleasantries and beautiful in the spring. One way to bring in the summer in our creole homes is to turn nôtre chambres into chambres d’été, summer bedrooms.



En la printemps, is the time we prepare our homes for summer and it begins with a thorough cleaning of our room.



  1. Depending on your curtain or drapes type, remove them from the curtain rod.


  2. Place the curtain or drapes into the washing machine or hamper to be washed.


  3. Open the window or windows of ton chambre. Opening the windows of la chambre will air the room out from all of the dust and etc that has been kept inside of your room all winter long. Opening the window or windows of the room will help with let air circumvent as you dust and clean the room.


  4. Take up your removable carpet and/or rugs.


  5. Take your removable carpet and or rugs and sweep them to remove dirt and debris.


  6. Hang the rug or rugs on a dry line.


  7. Follow the manufacture instructions to wash your removable carpet squares; if applies


  8. Remove blankets, quilts, coverlets and bedspreads from your room as well as sheets, shams and pillow cases.


  9. Wash your bed linen.


  10. Hang your bed linen with a bunch of _ bundled together to string hung on the drier line.


  11. Remove paintings, pictures, storyboards, cork boards, televisions, monitors, mirrors, macrame or woven wall art and/or any wall hangings from your walls.


  12. Remove any hanging paints or anything else hanging from your ceiling such as streamers and mobiles./li>

  13. Dust the room including the ceiling. Make sure not to skip dusting the ceiling. You need to cleanse your room from winter which includes your shedded skin and particles that creates dust over time. It is important to your overall health./li>

  14. Sweep the floor.


  15. Wash the ceiling and walls of the room.


  16. Clean the molding around the room. Clean the windows using rubbing alcohol or white vinegar.
